Andover is in Merrimack County approximately 15 miles north of Concord. The population is 2,371 (2010 census). It includes the villages of Andover, Potter Place, Cilleyville and East Andover. East Andover is set on the shores of Highland Lake which offers excellent fishing (rainbow trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass) and good swimming. The Lake is approximately 211 acres in size and 48 feet deep at its deepest point. The town provides a superb sandy public beach and the state maintains good boat access.
Andover is home to Proctor Academy, a private coeducational preparatory school. The school is located in Andover Village with classrooms and dorms on one side of Street and playing fields and Alpine Ski Area on the other side. Current enrollment is about 350 (with 75 commuting students). The Andover Historical Society maintains the old Railroad Station in Potter Place as a Museum which has a unique collection of memorabilia.
